Goldfish

The “Goldfish” First International competition for children’s and young people’s popular song was carried out on 24-26 July 2003 in the Open-air theatre in Varna. It was organized by the “Goldfish” foundation with the support of the Palace of culture and sport – Varna and the Union of Bulgarian composers.

In the competition there participated 102 competitors from Ukraine, Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro and Bulgaria. During the festival there were carried out also the following events: exhibition of children’s pictures, children’s fashion show, the participants gave a concert in Karin dom. A conference on “Important issues of children’s and young people’s popular song and work with children – pop-performers” was carried out.

The Competition attracted interest even after it finished. The “Goldfish” foundation was invited to give concerts of prize-winners. Boryana Hristova, aged 14, GRAND-PRIX winner at the “Goldfish” First international competition for children’s and young people’s popular song received at the festival the exceptionally prestigious invitation to participate as a special guest in the International festival “Nasha radost” in Serbia and Montenegro by Prof. Zoya Durovich from the Music academy in Podgoritsa. There she gave an individual performance.
On 22 September 2003 – the National holiday of Bulgarian independence – in a programme on BNT, immediately after raising the national flag, there was broadcast a 45-minute film on Channel 1 showing the Gala-concert of prize-winners and an interview with Prof. Victor Chuchkov – Chairman of the professional jury. This is a serious recognition and an assessment of the “Goldfish” First international competition for children’s and young people’s popular song on national level.
